Benefits:

Proton pump inhibitor. Treatment of duodenal, gastric ulcer; Zollinger-Ellison syndrome; GORD (mild reflux disease and assoc symptoms, reflux oesophagitis). Maintenance of duodenal and gastric ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, reflux oesophagitis in at risk patients. Eradication of H. pylori in combination with antibiotics in gastric, duodenal ulcer. Prevention of NSAID (nonselective) induced gastroduodenal ulcer in at risk patients on continuous NSAID therapy.

Ingredients:

Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate 20mg yellow, coated, marked P and strength; gluten free.

Directions:

Dose: May be taken with or without food. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew. Admin once daily.
Gastric, duodenal ulcer. Treatment: 40 mg/day for 2-4 weeks (duodenal) or 4-8 weeks (gastric). Maintenance: 40 mg/day.
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 40 mg/day.
Reflux oesophagitis. Treatment: 40 mg/day for 4-8 weeks. Maintenance: 20 mg/day; increase to 40 mg/day if relapse occurs.
Mild reflux disease: 20 mg/day for 2-4 weeks.
Prevention of NSAID induced gastroduodenal ulcer: 20 mg/day.
H. pylori eradication: 40 mg twice daily for 7 days + 2 antibiotics twice daily (amoxycillin 1,000 mg, clarithromycin 500 mg, metronidazole 500 mg).
Severe hepatic impairment: 20 mg/day.

Warning and Precautions:

Report fever, nausea, lethargy, weight loss, rash to doctor.


Precautions: Excl malignancy; severe hepatic impairment (monitor LFTs); cirrhosis; unresponsive mild reflux disease; psychiatric disorder predisposition; use > 1 year; pregnancy, lactation, children
Keep out of reach of Children.

Adverse Reactions:
Common: headache; GI upset. Uncommon: allergic reaction; dizziness; blurred vision.
Rare: depression; hallucination; cyanocobalamin deficiency (possible). Very rare: photosensitivity; peripheral oedema; severe hepatocellular damage; anaphylaxis; interstitial nephritis; leucopenia; thrombocytopenia; angioedema; severe skin reactions


Interactions:
See Contraindications; drugs with pH dependent bioavailability, e.g. ketoconazole; coumarins; CYP450 substrates (possible).
Contraindications:
Moderate to severe hepatic, renal impairment (H. pylori eradication combination treatment); concomitant atazanavir.
