8 May 2009
Bonjela teething gel and mouth ulcer gel is manufactured by Reckitt Benckiser and contains choline salicylate, Medsafe is warning parents to use the product at the recommended dose because British health authority fears of over use could lead to Reye’s syndrome. Choline salicylate has been used in NZ for over 30 years and CARM (Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring) have reported zero cases of adverse reactions. Reye’s syndrome is a very rare condition that causes serious liver and brain damage. Medsafe, would like to point out that there is no evidence that links Reye’s syndrome to the use of choline salicylate containing products such as Bonjela. |
