Allegra®/Telfast® is a non-sedating antihistamine for seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and the skin condition chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). Non drowsy and fast acting 24 hour relief from the symptoms of hayfever and allergy.
The Allegra® product range offers patients an easy-to-use, flexible dosage for the treatment of various seasonal allergies: Allegra® 60mg twice-daily; 120mg once daily 180mg, once-daily.

Sanofi-aventis also offers Allegra-D®, an extended release formulation with a decongestant for non-drowsy effective relief of seasonal allergy symptoms, including nasal congestion: Allegra-D12®, twice-daily; and Allegra-D24®, once-daily.

Recommended dosage of Allegra is as follows:
Seasonal allergies: 60 mg of Allegra twice a day or 180mg once a day for adults and children above 12 years of age; 30mg of Allegra twice a day for children in the age group of 6-11 years.
Chronic urticaria (hives): 60mg twice a day for adults and children above 12 years of age; 30mg twice a day for children between 6 and 11 years.

Precautions for Allegra

Allegra may be taken on empty stomach or after food.

Do not take Allegra along with or close to a dose of an antacid that contains aluminium or magnesium.

Never take an overdose of Allegra under any circumstances.

Avoid too much direct exposure to sunlight and use a good sunscreen since Allegra may increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.

Store the drug at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Patients having any allergy towards Fexofenadine or any other ingredients used in Allegra should not use Allegra.

Pregnancy and Lactation:
The effect that Allegra has during pregnancy is not fully known and therefore, it is advisable that a pregnant woman or one planning pregnancy consult with a doctor before using Allegra. Likewise, nursing mothers should also seek a doctor’s advice before starting with the drug.
